I used to feed my cat Nutro Max Cat for kittens when we rescued her from the shelter as a temporary food in the meantime until we found a better one for her. However, she loved it so much that it was hard to make the transition to another food. This is why I decided to make a review of Nutro Wild Frontier for adult cats to see if I could try a new cat food for my cat Sophie.
I currently feed my cat with a mix of Petcurean Chicken and Wild Calling Turkey with good results but I wanted to try Nutro Max instead of Petcurean for some months just not to get my Sophie bored with the same food for so long. After analyzing this cat food I came to a conclusion that I share with you in this review.

Analysis of first 5 ingredients of Nutro Wild Frontier
Chicken: 2 stars. Adds 84% of water weight to the formula. After cooking the chicken muscles adds much less weight which means less protein.
Chicken Meal: 5 stars. An excellent source of protein for cats because it’s pure concentrated chicken meat. As an ingredient, it adds to the formula the same percentage of protein as of its weight.
Pea Protein: 4 stars. A good vegetable protein for cats. 4 stars
Split Peas: 5 stars. Peas (green or yellow) are an excellent source of protein, carbohydrates, and fiber, with a low glycemic index.
Chicken Fat (preserved with Mixed Tocopherols): 3 stars. Excellent source of energy for cats, adding great flavor. Preserved with Vitamin E.
What are the Pros and Cons of Nutro Wild Frontier?
Pros
- 40% crude protein
- Grain-free formula
- No by-products, corn or soy meal
- Low glycemic carbohydrates in the first 5 ingredients, help to prevent peaks in your cat’s blood sugar.
- Beet pulp helps digestion

Cons
- Some vitamins (B12, B1, B6, B2) are not natural sourced (they are supplements)
- Tapioca as 6th ingredient. Tapioca is a high glycemic carb (it’s not part of the 5 main ingredients though).
- Guaranteed Analysis doesn’t mention mineral contents
- 0.18% Taurine could be higher, at least 0.20%
- Guaranteed Analysis doesn’t list all the essential amino acids
My Conclusion
Nutro Wild Frontier is a cat formula that points in the right direction with the ingredients, however, the Guaranteed Analysis of Nutro Wild Frontier lacks information about mineral contents which is crucial to know how loaded is the formula with Phosphorous and Magnesium. Also, the ash content is missing too from this list. It is well known that excess minerals or ash can cause urinary issues in cats so this is a piece of important information.
Bottom Line
The formula has good ingredients and I would recommend it, but the lack of information about the minerals, ash, and the fact that the nutritional information available doesn’t list all the essential amino acids (only Taurine) stops me from listing this recipe in the healthiest dry cat foods and from recommending this formula as every-day cat food for your feline.
As a side note, I wanted to mention that this Company guarantees 100% satisfaction with this cat food or money-back. They are convinced that any cat will eat this food due to its good flavor. The reviews on Amazon seem to confirm this. Nutro Wild Frontier has a rating of 4.6 stars out of 5, with 113 customer reviews.
Nutro Wild Frontier has great reviews, but if you are concerned about how much minerals you are feeding your cat and especially if your feline is a male, I would suggest checking for another formula that actually informs the content of minerals.
