In my Litter-Robot 4 review, I describe and show my experience using this unit and how great this automatic litter box works. However, in some cases, minor issues could appear that don’t allow you to get the best of this cool invention. That’s why the accessories of the Litter Robot 4 come to the rescue; they will help you to get the best satisfaction using this automatic litter box with your cat or cats. These accessories will help for better odor control, correct the cat’s posture when using the litter box, keep a neat and cleaner litter box area, and more. So here I show you and describe how they work and my experience using them. If I happen to use more accessories I will add them to this list.
The OdorTrap Pack is a small pouch containing beads with plant-based oils that attract odors. The bacteria-causing-odors attach to these oils and get destroyed. The OdorTrap pack doesn’t contain toxic chemicals such as phthalates, parabens, or even alcohol, so they are safe. This is an environmentally friendly, safe, and efficient technology to eliminate odors from your Litter Robot 4 or any traditional litter box.
I personally LOVE the smell of the beads. They have a nice mild citric aroma that provides a fresh touch to the litter box. How you can use the OdorTrap packs? There are three different ways to eliminate the odors of your Litter-Robot 4. You can use two packs, placing them inside the filter compartment of your Robot, in which case you need to remove the filter. This solution lasts one month without replacing the packs. In case you want to keep the filter in your litter box you can place the OdorTrap in the waste drawer instead, close to where the filter is located. For this option, you need to purchase the OdorTrap Pod Holder (see below) so you can put the single OdorTrap pack inside and place it in the waste drawer. This solution lasts for two weeks. A third option is that you can use the OdorTrap in both areas; inside the filter compartment and inside the waste drawer. The OdorTrap packs come in three sizes, 1-pack, 2-packs and 6-packs.
Unpacking And Placing the OdorTrap packs in the Litter-Robot 4
Personally, I have been using the OdorTrap packs in the filter compartment and inside the waste drawer of my LR4. According to my experience, they eliminate about 75-80%% of odors when opening the waste drawer which was the main issue for me. As I have stated always, I have never experienced bad odors leakage from my Robots, but when I had to open the waste drawer the story was different. I highly recommend this solution to reduce odors, it really works. Get your OdorTrap packs here.
OdorTrap Pod Holder
The OdorTrap Pod Holder is a plastic container that holds a single OdorTrap pack. The OdorTrap Pod Holder features a built-in magnet on the back and it comes with another magnet with a peel-off adhesive so you can place it anywhere you need.
How to Set Up OdorTrap Pack & Pod Holder in the Litter-Robot 4
The OdorTrap holder is an accessory designed to be placed inside the waste drawer, right in the middle of the waste drawer’s bottom (on the LR4). If you use it with a traditional litter box you need to place the holder above the litter box, on a wall. Get the OdorTrap Pod here.
The Litter-Robot 4 comes with a carbon filter compartment where you place the filter to absorb odors from the Litter-Robot. The Carbon Filter is located at the bottom of the globe, sitting right above the waste drawer. In order to replace the filter you need to use the Whisker App in the option to “Replace Filter”. When you tap on this option the globe rotates halfway locating the filter compartment right on top so you can easily change it.
Review of Filters and How to Replace Them
It’s recommended to replace the carbon filter every month to control odors effectively. The replacement filters come in a package of 6 and if you subscribe you can get 10% Off your first month, plus free shipping. Subscribe here to never run out of filters.
The Carpet Tray is an accessory created for people who have thick carpets (3mm/1/8 inch) that could interfere with the accuracy of the Litter Robot 4’s smart weight-scale sensor. If you place the Litter Robot 4 on top of a thick carpet the smart scale may register less weight of your cat than the actual one. This means the Whisker App will be showing your cat weighing less. In case you have a kitten weighing a little over 3lbs the unit may not register enough weight for the unit to operate correctly. Also, if you place the Litter-Robot 4 on a thick carpet the unit lacks stability.
Measures of the Carpet Tray:
The carpet tray has been designed to fit perfectly the Litter-Robot 4’s footprint. The tray doesn’t take extra space and looks good since it follows the outline of the Litter-Robot 4. The installation of the Carpet Tray is a little tricky since you can’t really see very well where you are placing the unit on top of the tray. That’s why you need to place it on top and adjust the location as you check it. The sides of the carpet tray need to be equal on both sides; in front, you have to hardly see the tray.

Get the Carpet Tray for the Litter-Robot 4 here. If you have a Litter-Robot 3 Connect and you want to know if this carpet tray fits the LR3, it doesn’t. I checked and it doesn’t fit at all, the Litter Robot 3 is wider so part of the bottom of the unit sits off the carpet tray. This accessory is only designed to be used with the Litter-Robot 4. If you check the list of Litter-Robot 3 accessories, you will see that there isn’t any carpet tray exclusively designed to be used with the LR3. The lack of a tray to place the Litter Robot 3 Connect on a carpeted surface is one of the many differences between The Litter Robot 3 and the Litter Robot 4.
Litter-Robot 4 Fence
When you purchase your Litter-Robot 4 you will receive a mini fence which works fine if your cat is not a digger or causes litter box accidents. But if you have a cat that digs vigorously or a feline that aims towards the entryway when doing its business you may want to get the taller Fence. The fence extra accessory provides a 3.5-inch tall barrier instead of the 2.5-inch tall of the included mini fence.
The fence reduces cat litter scattering by approximately 75% and it’s the perfect solution to keep the litter box area cleaner. Additionally, the fence stops urine leakage to the outside of the litter box in case your feline friend urinates too close to the entry. Also, the fence works as a deterrent for bad postures when the cat uses the Litter-Robot. If a cat puts its butt towards the entry, the taller fence stops and corrects the cat’s position to turn around. The cat when feeling an object in its butt, turns around naturally.

How a white Litter-Robot 4 looks with a black or a white fence:
The fence comes in two colors, black and white. Above you can see a picture of how both colors look on my Litter-Robot 4 so you can decide which one looks better. To install the fence you don’t need tools, you simply center the fence at the bottom of the entry and snap the fence on top until you hear a “click”. That’s all. In order to get your cat used to the new fence simply entice him with treats and spray some pheromones on the fence. Get the fence for your Litter-Robot 4 here.
The ramp of the Litter-Robot 4 comes with two types of hinges to install the ramp in case you want to install it with or without the fence. The installation is simple as shown in the video demonstration, the ramp prevents litter scattering on the floor, and allows easier access for your cat when entering the litter box and when exiting. This is especially important in cats over 7 or 8 years old who need less impact in their joints.
The ramp comes in two colors, black and white. Get the ramp here and help your kitty to have easier access to the Robot. In the video, we show how to install the ramp in the Litter-Robot without a fence and also with the fence. Check it out:
Litter-Robot Litter Trap
The Litter Trap is the Litter Robot litter mat that keeps the litter box area neat and clean. The Litter Trap consists of a top mesh made of EVA foam that is sewn together with a bottom part that collects the cat litter. The bottom part is made of EVA foam on the outside, polyester fiber inside, and coated with PE plastic film that makes it waterproof.
The top mesh allows the cat litter to fall through and the bottom collects and holds the cat litter. This way the surface of the mat looks clean, hiding the cat litter under so you don’t need to clean the mat every day. One side of the mat is sewn and the other side has the two parts attached by a velcro so you can open it and close it for easy cleaning.

See pictures below of different angles of the LitterTrap mat so you can have an idea on how large the mat is:
The front side of the Litter Trap features an indentation that matches perfectly the Litter Robot shape so the sides around the unit are well protected as well. The Litter Trap mat measures 23’’ W x 30’’L so it covers most of the area where the cat steps on or jumps onto. The Litter Trap bottom is coated with a urine-repellent film to protect the floor in case of litter box accidents. Get the LitterTrap for the Litter-Robot 4 here.
Litter-Robot 4 Seal Strips
The strips in the Litter Robot help to contain odors and leaks. There are four parts on the Litter-Robot 4 where you can replace the sealing strips. This accessory comes in a pack with all the strips you need to replace in the unit. Personally, I only replace the strips on the base to contain odors and I replace the lower edge of the globe because my cat digs a lot and some cat litter can make its way into the the lower part of the unit.
- Seal strips on top of the base, where the globe sits: This is the most common seal strip replacement. These are four strips that help contain odors between the waste drawer and the globe. These strips measure 13.5″L (forward strip x 1), 6″L (side strips x 2), and 12″L (rear strip x 1). Check the following video on how to install the strips:
How to change seal strips on the base
(note: the longer strip should go in the front, I switched it, but it works smoothly either way):
- Seal strips on the lower front of the globe: These are two strips of 11.5-inch length each, and they help to stop litter and waste leakage. Check on the below video how to install them:
How to change the strips on the globe’s lower front
- Seal strips located inside the Litter Robot’s bezel: These are two strips of 11.5″ each, and they work to stop litter and waste leakage from the globe to the bezel. I haven’t done this replacement since I haven’t really needed it.
- Seal strips located on the lower base: These are four seal strips located on the lower waste port of the Litter-Robot 4 and they help to reduce odors even more. They measure 10.25″ L (side strips x 2), and 13.5″ L (forward and rear strips x 2). Get the seal strips pack here.
This accessory allows the Litter Robot to keep operating without electric power for up to 48 hours, or approximately 20 cycles in total (10 cleaning cycles per day). Installing the battery is not complicated. You need to remove the globe, unscrew and remove the cover located on the base and then connect the wires to the battery, After that you screw the cover back on, put the globe and bonnet back on, and that’s it. This accessory is necessary if you live in an area with frequent power outages, especially in fall and winter, Also, it’s a good idea to power your Litter Robot with a battery backup in case you need to leave your cat alone for a few days. Get the battery backup here.

Litter-Robot 4 Camera Mount Kit
The camera mount kit is a cool accessory that is intended for use if you are planning on putting a camera on your Litter-Robot. By placing a camera on top of your unit you not only can monitor the functioning of the unit and the elimination habits of your cat, you can also check on your feline friend while being away from home. The Camera Mount kit doesn’t include the camera itself so you need to purchase it if you don’t have one already. You can find a comprehensive review on how to install the camera mount and what type of camera is suitable for it, on my Litter-Robot 4 Camera Mount Kit Review. Check it out.
The accessories for the Litter-Robot 4 allow you to get the best out of your unit, reducing odors, litter scattering, and much more. The accessories improve the benefits of this great automatic litter box, providing a better experience and convenience using this unit.
