I wanted to try the Feeder-Robot for my cat Sophie to see if its quality matched the Whisker’s litter box products. I am a fan of the Litter-Robot Connect cat box and the LR4 version (I own both). So I purchased this feeder in 2020 and have been feeding Sophie with this automatic device ever since. After years of use, I can finally share a comprehensive review so you know exactly how this unit works.
What Comes in the Box
- Feeder robot unit (with hopper insert)

- Quick guide
- Return Instructions
- User manual

My First Impression
The first thing I noticed is that the Feeder-Robot is quite large, making it perfect for multi-cat households or even small dogs. The materials look high-quality and durable, and the unit itself is solid and sleek. I would say this automatic feeder is made to last, proudly manufactured in the USA.
Capacity, Dimensions & Weight
- Food capacity: 25 cups (30–32 cups by removing holder insert)

- Weight: 9 lbs.
How the Feeder Robot Works
When I first tested the Feeder-Robot, I realized it gives you a lot of flexibility depending on how you want to feed your cat. Sophie is used to eating several small meals a day, so I tried both manual mode and the App to see which worked better. Here are how the modes work and food size:
Mode Settings & Food Compatibility
These combination of options made it really easy to match Sophie’s eating habits without overfeeding:
- Manual mode: Lets you set up to 4 meals per day, from 1/8 cup to 1 cup each. I used this at the beginning and it worked fine for Sophie.
- App mode: Expands to 8 meals per day with highly customizable schedules. I liked being able to set up different schedules (like “weekend” vs “workdays”) and set breakfast, lunch, and dinner for each group of days. You can enable only one feeding schedule in the feeder at a time.
- Kibble size compatibility: Works with kibble up to 5/8”. That covers most dry cat foods, and the 1/8 cup setting is perfect for cats that need multiple small meals.

Design & Special Features
For Sophie, the Feeder Robot design has always made eating easy and hassle-free. The only thing I’ve noticed is that the dispensing noise can startle her if she’s right next to the feeder, but when she’s farther away it doesn’t bother her at all.
- No food jams: The flexible flaps inside the hopper rotate smoothly to keep kibble flowing.
- Cat-proof : The chute design makes it nearly impossible for a cat to steal kibble with the paws, placing this unit among truly cat-proof automatic feeders.
- Better food access: Thanks to the ramp and slightly tilted bowl, kibble always ends up where she can reach it easily, no more food piled up in the food gate.

Other Functions & Thoughtful Details
- Gravity mode: This function can be enabled from the panel or through the App. Once activated, the feeder checks the bowl every 6 hours and tops it off automatically. It’s especially useful for free-feeding multi-cat or dog households, since it keeps the bowl full at all times.
- Manual feed: You can feed your cat anytime by pressing the manual feed button on the unit or tapping this option in the App.
- Optional battery backup: keeps the feeder running up to 24 hours in power-saving mode during a power outage, then switches back to household power and recharges automatically.
- Meal history in the App: lets you track how many meals and snacks were dispensed weekly or monthly.
- Night light: helps pets locate the feeder in the dark.
- Status indicator light:
- Solid blue = feeder in active mode
- Solid yellow = hopper low (20% capacity)
- Solid red = critically low (5% capacity)
- Flashing red = food jam
- Solid purple = food not consumed (12+ hours)
Personally, the App’s meal history has been the most helpful detail for me, it reassures me that Sophie never misses a meal.

How to Set Up the Feeder-Robot
Setting up the Feeder-Robot was simple for me, but there are a few details that make the process smoother.
Preparing the Unit
First, wipe clean or wash the feeding trays and the hopper insert. You can choose to use the plastic tray or the stainless steel tray that comes with the feeder. Then, plug in the unit and turn it on. Make sure to plug it before pouring food into the feeder, since the plug input is located at the bottom. Once powered, you can start binding the feeder to Wi-Fi.
Steps to Onboard the Feeder Robot
- Turn the feeder on by pressing the Power button.
- Download the Whisker App.
- Check that Bluetooth is enabled on your phone.
- Press and hold the Connect button (Wi-Fi icon) for 3 seconds to put the feeder into onboarding mode. A yellow blinking light above the Connect button should appear.
- Follow the App instructions and scan the QR code on the back of the feeder as directed.
- Once connected successfully, the light above the Connect button will show solid blue. (Check my video at the end on how to onboard the Feeder-Robot if you prefer visual tutorial.)
Programming the Feeder-Robot on the Whisker App
- You can program one or multiple feeding schedules, each up to 8 total per day.
- Each schedule can be named (for example, “Weekends”, “Workdays” or “Weight Loss Diet”).
- Under each schedule, you can add up to 8 meals and also name them (like breakfast, lunch, dinner).
- Schedules can be paused, deleted, or customized at any time.
- When creating a feeding schedule you can assign meals to any day of the week and at any time you choose, the possibilities are endless. You can enable only one schedule at at time in the feeder.

How to Clean the Feeder-Robot
For a quick clean, I usually just wash the feeding bowl and hopper insert with mild soap and warm water. When I’ve done a full deep clean, I hand-wash all the removable parts (food bowl, hopper, hopper insert, hopper lid, dispenser, dispenser flap). If you want the full step-by-step with photos and videos on how I do it, check my article: How to Clean the Feeder-Robot.

- Made in the USA, with quality materials and solid construction.
What I Am Not a Fan of | “Cons”
- Noise while dispensing: can be loud for skittish cats.
- Backup battery sold separately: not included with the unit.
- Water marks can appear on stainless steel bowl if not fully dried.
- Price: higher cost compared to basic automatic feeders.
- Crumbs collect in chute and crannies: brush needed to sweep out.
- Power port location is at the bottom: inconvenient if kibble is added before connecting.
Final Thoughts
After long-term testing the Feeder-Robot with my cat, I can conclude that it is built with high standards of quality and safety. Every detail has been designed to address common problems found in other automatic feeders, such as food theft, food jamming, and inaccurate portions.
The Feeder-Robot also allows you to program a minimum portion of 1/8 cup with an accurate dispensing, which helps cats eat several small meals per day without overeating.
Even after testing other automatic feeders over the years, the Feeder-Robot continues to stand out for its reliability, thoughtful design, and precise performance.
My Bottom Line
I recommend the Feeder-Robot as a reliable, high-quality, and accurate feeder. It is especially well-suited for households with two cats that need a dependable unit that works consistently.
I came to this verdict after experimenting with three different automatic feeders for Sophie, all placed in the same room. Every time, she preferred eating from the Feeder-Robot. After that, I removed the others and kept this one as the winner. During all the time I’ve used it, the feeder has never jammed, and with the backup battery working well, I feel confident leaving the house knowing Sophie’s meals are covered.

Unpacking & Full Review – My First Look at the Feeder-Robot
how many cats will this feed I have 12
Hello Darlene, two or three cats can eat from the feeder if they eat at the same time and are friendly enough to do it. If your cats take turns in order to eat, the feeder can feed them all because there are many feeding options where you can keep the feeder full for them. The thing is that I find it hard for cats to take turns when eating. If a cat sees one eating the other wants to eat too. So my answer is that the Feeder Robot can feed up to three cats if they are friendly enough to share the bowl nicely. Hope that helps!
thank you
You are welcome Darlene!
My schedule does not dispense the food. I’m about to give up and send it back!
