If you have the Feeder Robot and want to know how to clean it but don’t know how to disassemble it and what parts you can wash, here’s a guide that will help you step by step. If you still don’t have this great automatic feeder you can read my Feeder Robot review and learn much more about it.

How Often To Clean the Feeder Robot

The manufacturer recommends to clean the Feeder Robot at least once a month. All the steps how to disassemble and clean the Feeder Robot are shown in short videos so you can clearly see how to do it. Let’s start!

Disassembling the Feeder Robot

Before disassembling the Feeder Robot you need to empty it in case it still has food inside, for this you can use the feed button to empty the unit. The disassembling process is very simple following the steps. As a side note, I don’t use the plastic tray that comes with the Feeder Robot so here you will see that I will be washing the stainless steel bowl.

1. Empty the Feeder Robot, Turn it Off and Unplug it

To empty the Feeder Robot press the manual feed button several times until you empty the hopper. Open the lid to make sure there is not food left inside, then turn the feeder off and unplug it. Pour the collected cat food into a different bowl temporarily for your cat to eat.

2. Remove the Bowl and Lid

Detach the lid by pressing the handles on the sides at the same time and lift it. Then remove the bowl from the holder.

3. Remove the Hopper Insert

To remove the hopper insert, place the fingers inside and the thumb outside to create a leverage so you can pull it easier.

4. Remove the Hopper

To remove the hopper half rotate the hopper’s dial counterclockwise and this will release the hopper from the base so you can remove it.

5. Remove the Dispenser Piece

Grab the dispenser that is located in the back of the feeder and pull it strongly, so this piece will detach from the back. If it doesn’t detach right away, try to lose it until it detaches.

6. Remove the Flap From the Dispenser Piece

Simply slide the flap off the side of the dispenser piece and it will detach. You can do this step when washing the dispenser if you want.

Remove the Debris From The Base

After you disassemble the Feeder Robot make sure to clean the food particles from the base and the dispenser piece using a small brush, or a toothbrush, getting rid of all the debris, sweeping it towards the bowl’s holder. Wipe the residual on the bowl’s holder. Now you are ready to clean the Feeder Robot.

Cleaning the Feeder Robot: Wiping Clean and Washing

There are parts of the Feeder Robot that can’t be submersed in water or under running water. The base of the Feeder Robot must be wiped clean. Regarding the lid, Whisker’s website mentions that you can wash manually the lid but I did this the first time and some water got inside the spring mechanism so I had to unscrew it and dry it. Since then I only wipe clean the lid as well.

Wipe Clean the Feeder Robot’s Base

Make sure to clean all the surfaces of the base, especially the sliding surface, getting some of the remaining debris, wipe it several times with a wet cloth or paper towel. Dry well.

Wipe Clean the Hopper Lid

Wipe using a wet paper towel or piece of cloth, making sure to wipe several times changing the paper towel or rising the cloth, and then dry very well. By wiping clean the lid you make sure no water gets inside the spring mechanism. If you submerse the lid or put it under running water and don’t unscrew the top piece that covers the spring mechanism to dry the pieces inside, the mechanism could rust and malfunction over time.

Washing the Feeder Robot Parts

You can wash and submerse the bowl, the hopper insert, the hopper, the dispenser and the flap. I personally use a good quality dishwasher soap because I want to make sure to eliminate all the oils sticking to the surface of the pieces. After washing manually in the sink I rinse very well and dry each part with an ultra absorbing paper towel.

Re-Assembling the Feeder Robot

Now it’s time to put all the parts back into the Feeder Robot. The first step is attaching the flap into the dispenser piece by sliding it into it. Then place the dispenser in the back of the feeder, making sure to press very well to get it tight. Then put the hopper insert, pressing down to make sure it doesn’t wobble. Then put the hopper and to do this you need to half turn the dial counterclockwise so it allows the hopper to snap inside tightly. Then put the lid on and the stainless steel bowl. Now you have a Feeder Robot clean, ready to use.

I hope my guide how to disassemble and clean the Feeder Robot has been useful to you. This way your cat will enjoy its meals in a clean unit that will keep your feline friend happy and healthy. Thanks for reading!
