Acana Grassland Canadian Formula

Acana Grassland Canadian formula changed, so here’s my review of this recipe. As a curious note, a reader from UK asked me on my Twitter what I thought about the new Acana Grassland UK formula and I told her I would make a review of it. I didn’t know that Acana Grassland cat food sold in UK is the same Canadian formula, so here it goes my review.

Features

  • Grain-free and gluten-free formula
  • Loaded with 75% animal ingredients
  • Free-run chickens and turkeys freely move in a barn without outdoor access.
  • Ingredients labeled as “Fresh” are refrigerated.
  • Raw ingredients are frozen at their peak freshness.
  • Duck: fresh meat, organs, cartilage and liver
  • Turkey: meat, liver, and cartilage
  • Nest-laid eggs kept refrigerated as the sole method of preservation.

Guaranteed Analysis Acana Canadian

Crude protein 37 % – Fat content 18 % – Crude ash 9 % – Crude fiber 3 % – Moisture 10 % – Calcium 1.9 % – Magnesium 0.1 % – Taurine 0.1 % – Phosphorus 1.3 % – Omega-6  2.5 % – Omega-3  0.8 % – DHA 0.2 % – EPA 0.2%.

Rating of first 5 ingredients of Acana Grassland Canada

  • Raw duck (3 stars): This is a good protein source for cats. It adds less water weight than chicken or turkey.
  • Fresh chicken (2 stars): Fresh meat contains about 84% of water in the muscles so this weight adds to the formula before being processed. This means is provides less protein nutrition coming from chicken. Fresh chicken is  much better in canned food.
  • Fresh eggs (3 stars): This is a good source of protein for cats, it may include some shell pieces that is not well digested by cats.
  • Chicken meal (5 stars): Excellent source of concentrated protein for cats.
  • Turkey meal (4 stars): Good source of concentrated protein for cats, it’s less tasty than chicken meal.

What are the Pros and Cons of Acana Grassland Canadian Formula?

  • Good balance of fatty acids Omega6/Omega3
  • Low glycemic carbs, good for a balanced blood sugar in cats.
  • It lists all the essential amino-acids.
  • Natural sources of sodium chloride (salt).
  • Healthy sources of minerals and vitamins
  • There’s no duplication of minerals to lower costs as others brands

CONS

  • The formula contains five types of carbs, which could make indoor cats gain some weight.
  • Whole chickpeas could be hard to digest by some cats.

Conclusion about Acana Grassland Canadian Formula

Acana Grassland Canadian contains healthy animal source proteins and a good ratio of minerals. Additionally, the formula provides natural sources of sodium, healthy vitamin supplements and excellent balance of Omegas. Finally, a great addition is the fact that the meats are kept refrigerated as the only method of preservation and the raw meats are kept frozen at their pick freshness. This ensures a safe and nutritional animal protein in the formula.

I recommend Acana Grassland Canadian formula (sold in Canada) for adult cats with no digestive sensitivities. If you can’t access this Acana Canadian formula, visit my cat food reviews to check the Acana Grassland formula for the USA market.
