ABOUT NATURAL PLANET ORGANICS
Natural Planet Organics is a product made in USA. They are certified by Oregon Tilth Certified Organic (OTCO), an internationally recognized symbol of organic integrity (this certification exceeds the United States Department of Agriculture USDA organic standards).
Organic foods mean the land farm has not had any chemicals applied, such as herbicides or chemical fertilizers for at least three years.
Healthy and safe standards
The health safety is 100% controlled in the whole production process and the first testing begins with the ingredients. They purchase ingredients only from approved suppliers who have agreed to meet predetermined specifications. They test in-factory laboratory every step in the production process.
Natural Planet Organics and PureVita have the same high-quality production standards (they belong to the same Company). You can check the complete testing process and their “4 Life System” formula here.
I will review the Natural Planet Organics Dry Food formula analyzing its first 5 ingredients, the Pros and Cons of the formula, and finally a conclusion.

ANALYSIS OF FIRST 5 INGREDIENTS OF NATURAL PLANET ORGANICS
Organic chicken: 2 stars. Chicken’s muscles add water. Fewer proteins, weighing more. A good complement to chicken meal.
Chicken meal: 5 stars. Excellent source of highly concentrated proteins, very good for cats.
Organic yellow peas: 4 stars. Good source of vegetable protein.
Organic flax seed: 5 stars. Whole seeds provide a better source of omega-3 fatty acids. Excellent source of nutritive fiber.
Organic barley: 3 stars. Excellent grain and a good source of nutrients. Barley is not whole ground so the nutritional quality is not known.

CONS
- It informs some of the 11 essential amino acids cats need in the food’s nutritional analysis, but not all of them.

- 3rd and 5th ingredients add carbohydrates (though, very nutritive vegetable proteins)
- Availability to find in stores.
CONCLUSION
Natural Planet Organics dry food Chicken formula is a good alternative for cat owners that want to minimize the consumption of pesticides in the cat diet. This cat food is not free of carbohydrates but it is well balanced and it contains high sources of omega-3 without including salmon (salmon adds mercury to the cat’s diet).
The largest part of any cat food is represented by the first 5 ingredients, but in order to rate a cat food, I consider the first 3 ingredients for a more accurate rating of the quality of proteins in the formula. Considering its first 3 ingredients, Natural Planet Organics Chicken formula has an average rate of 3.6 stars.
Taking down 1/2 of a star because it is not free of carbohydrates, the average rating it’s 3.1 stars, which is very good for non-carbohydrate-free cat food. However, the formula does not inform the 11 essential amino acids cats need in the food’s nutritional analysis.
Important Point: Dry cat foods are not sufficient for a healthy cat diet and they MUST be complemented with canned wet food, plus giving your cat plenty of water at all times. Your cat’s water intake must come from food and water.
BOTTOM LINE
√ I recommend Natural Planet Organic in a mixed diet with wet canned food, for:
- Adult healthy and active cats
- If you want your cat to eat a formula with fewer pesticides in the ingredients.
x I don’t recommend this cat food:
- As the only source of proteins for your cat
- If you prefer a gluten-free diet for your pet
- If you want a formula labeling all the amino acids cats need.
- If you want a 100% organic cat food

Why do they put peas in the food when it has been proven to cause urinary crystals in cats?
Lorena Ávila says
Hello Liz, thanks for your contribution. If you have the link that proves by laboratory that a very low percent of yellow peas (not green peas) form urinary crystals in cats I will remove the information of this website. Though, it has not been proven that a very low percent of yellow peas creates urinary condition in cats, they actually eat carbs naturally inside the prey when they eat animals. What does create urinary problems in cats is the lack of drinking water and that is the major downfall of cat owners these days with indoor cats.

I am mystified by the “100% organic” claim. The second ingredient is “chicken meal”. Not “organic chicken meal”. This indicates that the chicken meal is not organic. If it were, they would say so. The second ingredient is pretty high on the list and could account for a considerable percentage of the total ingredients. This is not a 100% organic cat food. The chicken in the chicken meal was also very likely fed GMO feed. Just sayin’.
Lorena Ávila says
Thanks for your observation Carol. Effectively, the second ingredient is not organic chicken as you pointed. This recipe is more oriented to people who do not want to feed their cats food with pesticides in the vegetable ingredients and most of the rest of the ingredients. The organic proteins in this formula are chicken and eggs, but not in chicken meal, tuna and chicken fat.
Lorena Ávila says
I am not sure about that. I buy my cat food through Amazon.
